A big hero of mine. Parliamentarian cleric who fought in the war and preached some of the most quotable sermons. His last sermon to his regiment was given in 1646 by which time he had reached the rank of major.

From a list of all the Colonells of the army, published in 1640. Algernon Percy was the Admiral of the Fleet as well as Earl of Northumberland. Plain falling band and nicely buttoned sleeves all the way up.

Little piece of Royalist propaganda showing the imaginary pillorying of the author of the parliament tract Mercurius Aulicus. Published in 1644. Nice clothing details on the rabble of soldiers surrounding the stocks.

Standard sheet about a horrible murder and execution from 1640, but I like the costume details. Nice bodice on the woman in the foreground, possibly fastened with hooks & eyes. I also suspect that the poor woman on the right has been hanged in her smock and stays. What do you think?

1642 single page broadside from Thomason Tracts. This shows some nice details of common labourer’s clothes, including boots, wide brimmed hats and plain coats. two of the shepherds have waistbelts on top of their coats, supporting their “man bags”

Another of his accessories, a liveried groom. Nicely cut, plain blue doublet with 4 or 6 panes on the skirt. Laced falling band and cuffs and a decent pair of boots. I don’t think he was a dwarf, I suspect the artist’s perspective is slightly off. Painted in 1638.
